Celebration of the month of the birth
I don’t celebrate a birthDAY – I celebrate the entire month (even though it is officially my birthday today) – happy birthday to me 😀
It’s a wonder I’ve had time to do anything on the old farmhouse with all the catching up I’ve had to do with old friends. So much for me moving to the country to write – I haven’t had time to scratch myself (lucky I haven’t had any itches).
Yesterday I went out to the old farm house to catch up on some blogging, but got waylaid doing some work around the place. But I did find a discarded snake skin where I usually sit and write.
On Saturday one of our dear friends was driving his tractor near an embankment when the clutch pin broke and the tractor went over the edge. He managed to jump off before it hit the bottom and is thankfully alive to tell the tale. We’ve been friends for so long I had actually based a character on him (one of the Rossi twins) in my novel Let Sleeping Gods Lie.
While we were in the shed checking out the tractor we saw some dove chicks in a box. They were about a week old and the mother was nowhere around so I took a quick photo. Just to clarify here – this is a HUGE industrial shed with loads of noise and grinding of metal, but for some reason the mother dove decided to lay her eggs here (don’t worry, the boys who work in the shed absolutely LOVE them!)
We then went past a part of the farm where the boys used to swim when they were kids – but they don’t anymore…
I then said hello to Mo the pig (he’s a razorback btw!)
My friend’s dog, Bonnie didn’t want me to leave at the end of the day
That was my yesterday – there’s loads on today with a birthday breakfast, a lunch and a dinner! Until next time – be well, stay safe and if you’re driving a tractor stay away from embankments!
Dianne, happy birthday for the 26th or 27th #confused and I am loving the new tone of your blogs #roots. I am starting to look for them too.

Thanks, John 😉 My friend was very lucky to jump when he did – the tractor was still in gear and when it hit the bottom it turned and started making it’s way up the back towards him! A nice cold beer will ease the pain every time 😀

Happy birthMONTH!
You say, “discarded snakeskin” like that happens everyday. Didn’t you freak?
LikeLike
Hey, Robin – I freaked at first, but then had a look around (under the table, chair, rafters above me) and couldn’t find it, so it must have gone up a tree (or something)! I know there’s a snake there somewhere now and because it’s just shed it’s skin it means it’s getting bigger. It’s probably only a python (I hope) so it should stay away from me while I’m sitting there writing 😉
Thank you so much for the birthday wishes! 😀
LikeLike
You say “only a python” like THAT happens everyday too. Geez. I would have moved out by now.

Pythons are more frightened of people than we are of them (having said that, you don’t want one to drop out of a tree onto your head). 😀
It’s the taipans and death adders that I worry about (argh – yuck)!
And this is the place I’m getting ready to move into – there’s not room there for all of us so they’ll have to be gone by the time I move my gear in 😉

Hi Dianne. Happy Birthday to you. Guess what? It’s my birthday today too! Although I’m in North America, you’re a day ahead of me, but still, divorced of such human constructs as time zones and date lines, at this moment in time, we are both celebrating the day or our birth. Pretty awesome, hey? 🙂
I’m glad that your friend is unharmed, and I love that you found a snake skin in the house. I adore snakes, and used to live in a house with snakes when I worked and lived in a national park. Nice picture of the swimming area, too. It looks so warm and inviting – a fun place to go exploring.
Have a great day. 😀

Happy Birthday, Diane! I too, have to extend my b-day to a b-month, so all of my friends can “make an appointment” to celebrate. This year they got smart, gathered together and surprised me at one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. We had a great time.
I’m not sure about snakes, though. The pig, the doves and the dogs would be fine, but I hate all things that slither. I don’t go well with things that sting or bite, either. Happy Day, my friend.

Hey Barbara – you are a woman after my own heart for doing the monthly celebration and what a lovely surprise from your friends! 🙂
I’m not too keen on thing that slither either, but my fear is rats (they breed them big up here!) and the snakes kill the rats and that’s good in my book.
Thank you for the best wishes 😀

Happy Birth Month, I was reading your story and your settling in and not having time to write. When you went to find your laptop and there was a snake skin I had the same reaction. You better watch out. Well, my partner heard my reaction and told me that finding a snake skin is a symbolic gift. When snakes slough their skin it is a sign of renewal, new beginnings and eternal life. So it is not a bad thing but finding the actual snake might not be such a good thing depending on the species. Snakes due tend to be good, though, about keeping unwanted creatures under control. Not that I advocate the killing of such creatures. Sorry to hear about your friend’s almost accident. That embankment looks rather ominous. Too bad about the water sight, which looks grand, now being infested with crocodilians. Great photography. Love all the animals. And you got to go to a Mexican restaurant for a surprise. Love Mexican food. 🙂 Jennifer j.k. the secret keeper

Happy birthday! Glad your friend survived the tractor adventure…it could’ve easily had a tragic ending. And those doves – how cute. Thank you for the birthday wishes, Janna! 😀
I’m really surprised that the mother bird nested there as well – maybe she thought they would be safer with so much action going on around the place and that the noise may keep the snakes away from the chicks??? Just a guess… We used to have sun birds nesting around the party lights on our veranda (and that wasn’t a quiet place!) I can’t wait until the house is ready and that happens again because the pictures would be amazing 😀

To start with a very Happy Birthday, and may there be many many more… I actually like the idea of celebrating for a month, a day seems so short and over quickly… if I drive a tractor today I will definitely stay away from embankments, thanks for the warning… as for a snake skin under the lap top… not sure that is conducive to writing, where either your eyes need to be on the screen or on the key board (like mine) it is going to be distracting waiting for the freshly skinned snake to make an appearance… have a good day….

Happy Birthday, Dianne. Actually, the snake skin matches your circumstances. In Asian culture, people born in the year of the snake have to “shed their skin” a few times in their lives–my memoir is tentatively titled “Shedding Skin.” This is usually a huge life change, like quitting one’s job and moving to a new place to start a new life and career. Sound familiar? I’m not sure if you were born in the year of the snake, but you definitely have shed your skin like your friend there. All the best to you on this new start and anniversary.
