Celebration of the month of the birth

I don’t celebrate a birthDAY – I celebrate the entire month (even though it is officially my birthday today) – happy birthday to me 😀

It’s a wonder I’ve had time to do anything on the old farmhouse with all the catching up I’ve had to do with old friends. So much for me moving to the country to write – I haven’t had time to scratch myself (lucky I haven’t had any itches).

Yesterday I went out to the old farm house to catch up on some blogging, but got waylaid doing some work around the place. But I did find a discarded snake skin where I usually sit and write.

Snake skin under my laptop

On Saturday one of our dear friends was driving his tractor near an embankment when the clutch pin broke and the tractor went over the edge. He managed to jump off before it hit the bottom and is thankfully alive to tell the tale. We’ve been friends for so long I had actually based a character on him (one of the Rossi twins) in my novel Let Sleeping Gods Lie.

Where the tractor went over

Down the other side where it crashed,
YAY – I’m alive – let’s have a beer

How I jumped!

While we were in the shed checking out the tractor we saw some dove chicks in a box. They were about a week old and the mother was nowhere around so I took a quick photo. Just to clarify here – this is a HUGE industrial shed with loads of noise and grinding of metal, but for some reason the mother dove decided to lay her eggs here (don’t worry, the boys who work in the shed absolutely LOVE them!)

We don’t mind the noise…

We then went past a part of the farm where the boys used to swim when they were kids – but they don’t anymore…

…because the crocodiles have moved in

I then said hello to Mo the pig (he’s a razorback btw!)

Yes – that is my foot 🙂

Mo is very polite because he sits to eat

My friend’s dog, Bonnie didn’t want me to leave at the end of the day

Stay a little bit longer, please!

That was my yesterday – there’s loads on today with a birthday breakfast, a lunch and a dinner! Until next time – be well, stay safe and if you’re driving a tractor stay away from embankments!

Dianne, happy birthday for the 26th or 27th #confused and I am loving the new tone of your blogs #roots. I am starting to look for them too.

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 2:23 pm

Thank you so much for the birthday congrats!:D It’s been a wonderful month (my birthday is actually on the 26th, but the post probably came up on the 25 – which can be confusing) 😀

  2. Polysyllabic Profundities / Nov 26 2012 7:25 am

A very happy birthday to you!! I will be sure to raise a glass in your honor this evening. Hope you have a great day!!

    • diannegray / Nov 26 2012 8:11 am

Thank you so much, Susan! Enjoy your glass raising 😉

  3. John / Nov 26 2012 7:30 am

Happy B’day!! And so glad your bud was able to leap off the trac before the plummet! Good to see him drinking a cold one. That’s a big pig! And nice foot shot too. 😉 No trac riding here today, snow on the ground this morning. Be well!!

    • diannegray / Nov 26 2012 8:14 am

Thanks, John 😉 My friend was very lucky to jump when he did – the tractor was still in gear and when it hit the bottom it turned and started making it’s way up the back towards him! A nice cold beer will ease the pain every time 😀

  4. robincoyle / Nov 26 2012 7:46 am

    Happy birthMONTH!

You say, “discarded snakeskin” like that happens everyday. Didn’t you freak?

    • diannegray / Nov 26 2012 8:21 am

Hey, Robin – I freaked at first, but then had a look around (under the table, chair, rafters above me) and couldn’t find it, so it must have gone up a tree (or something)! I know there’s a snake there somewhere now and because it’s just shed it’s skin it means it’s getting bigger. It’s probably only a python (I hope) so it should stay away from me while I’m sitting there writing 😉

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes! 😀

      • robincoyle / Nov 26 2012 8:42 am

You say “only a python” like THAT happens everyday too. Geez. I would have moved out by now.

      • diannegray / Nov 26 2012 8:48 am

Pythons are more frightened of people than we are of them (having said that, you don’t want one to drop out of a tree onto your head). 😀

It’s the taipans and death adders that I worry about (argh – yuck)!

And this is the place I’m getting ready to move into – there’s not room there for all of us so they’ll have to be gone by the time I move my gear in 😉

      • robincoyle / Nov 26 2012 10:21 am

Wanna stay with me? No snakes here!

  5. Sheila Morris / Nov 26 2012 7:47 am

Happy Birthday to you Dianne Gray, Author who has returned to the country to celebrate her life! I salute you on this day and in the days to come and wish you good health and happiness from across the miles and oceans and satellite waves!

    • diannegray / Nov 26 2012 8:23 am

AWWW – thank you so much, Sheila! What a beautiful statement. I’m honored! 😀

  6. Janna G. Noelle / Nov 26 2012 7:52 am

Hi Dianne. Happy Birthday to you. Guess what? It’s my birthday today too! Although I’m in North America, you’re a day ahead of me, but still, divorced of such human constructs as time zones and date lines, at this moment in time, we are both celebrating the day or our birth. Pretty awesome, hey? 🙂

I’m glad that your friend is unharmed, and I love that you found a snake skin in the house. I adore snakes, and used to live in a house with snakes when I worked and lived in a national park. Nice picture of the swimming area, too. It looks so warm and inviting – a fun place to go exploring.

    Have a great day. 😀

    • diannegray / Nov 26 2012 8:28 am

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you too my darling!!!! I thought there was ‘something’ that made us very similar – now I know! 😀 This is awesome!

I knew out of everyone who reads my blog that you’d like the snake pic because of your previous job 😉 If it appears while I’m sitting there writing I’ll try and get a good pic.

      Have a wonderful day! 😀

  7. harulawordsthatserve / Nov 26 2012 7:55 am

You have the CUTEST furry and feathered friends, but Mo’s the one that’s stolen my heart:-) And here’s an alternative birthday song, “For You we Sing, and Happiness we bring, to Celebrate your birth, an Angel here on Earth.” Hope you’ll soon have time to write (and scratch!)…blessings:-)

    • diannegray / Nov 26 2012 8:29 am

Thank you, Harula – what a beautiful song! 😀 I absolutely love it – what a darling you are 😉

  8. agjorgenson / Nov 26 2012 8:06 am

Happy Birthday! Since it is officially still yesterday here in Canada, happy birthday for tomorrow to you as well. But I don’t think you can translate two birthday days into two birthday months, although it is certainly worth the effort!

    • diannegray / Nov 26 2012 8:33 am

Thank you, Allen for the double birthday wishes! Two birthday days – I love it 😉

  9. Roy McCarthy / Nov 26 2012 8:11 am

Happy birthday Dianne, who makes the blogosphere (when not showing green ants and spiders as big as your arm) and the book world a better place.

    • diannegray / Nov 26 2012 8:35 am

Awww – thank you, Roy. You made me blush! 😀

  10. moderndayruth / Nov 26 2012 8:11 am

Happy Birthday, dear Dianne! Many Happy Returns of the Day!
I am so glad your friend is unharmed! Geez, me too – i’d have not one beer – but at least six on that occasion!
Btw, nice shoes that you are wearing – totally my kind, they seem so comfortable! Oh, and – i am afraid of wild pigs, but Bonnie…awww ❤ love her ❤

    • diannegray / Nov 26 2012 8:39 am

Thank you so much, Lena 😉

I absolutely love those shoes, they’re just little leather flats that I can wear around the farm. Very handy indeed.

Yes – I think my friend had more than one beer 😀

I love Bonnie – she’s such a cutie, for some reason I’m the only visitor she really likes and I don’t mind at all 😉

  11. Ruth Rainwater / Nov 26 2012 8:12 am

You sound quite busy!! But you also sound as if you’re loving every minute of it. So Happy Birth day/month!

    • diannegray / Nov 26 2012 8:41 am

Thank you, Ruth – next there is Christmas so I don’t see things slowing down in the near future! 😀

  12. adinparadise / Nov 26 2012 8:28 am

Happy Birthday to you, Dianne. I guess that snake left you a birthday gift. 🙂 Life on the farm sounds anything but boring, and that pig is adorable. Did I really say that?!! 😀 Those little dove chicks are so cute, and so is Bonnie. Thank goodness your tractor friend is OK. He really has cause to celebrate. 🙂 Enjoy the rest of your birthday month. *hugs*

    • diannegray / Nov 26 2012 8:43 am

Awwww – thank you so much for the *hugs* – I love hugs! 😀

I’d never thought of the snake’s birthday gift – but that’s probably true! I’m glad it only left me the wrapping 😉

  13. Amanda / Nov 26 2012 8:42 am

    Happy birthmonth!

  14. Theo Fenraven / Nov 26 2012 8:49 am

Nice photos. Particularly enjoyed the snake skin and river.

    • diannegray / Nov 26 2012 9:56 am

Thanks, Theo! Yesterday was a real photo opportunity day 😀

  15. Britt Skrabanek / Nov 26 2012 9:04 am

    I had a sneaky feeling you were a fellow Sagittarian. : )

Happy Birthday, wonderful and awesome Dianne! I hope your day, month, and year are consumed by the beauty of creativity.

    • diannegray / Nov 26 2012 9:57 am

Thank you so much, Britt. Another Sagittarian in the ranks – Happy Birthday month to you too! 😀

  16. Lonely Daffodil / Nov 26 2012 9:32 am

Happy birthday, Dianne! In my culture, it is believed that the snake skin brings a fortune 🙂

    • diannegray / Nov 26 2012 9:58 am

Woo Hoo! I’d better buy that lottery ticket today!

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes! 😀

  17. nrhatch / Nov 26 2012 9:44 am

Happy Birthday. Ack! Snake skin. 😯

    • diannegray / Nov 26 2012 9:51 am

Hahaha! At least the snake wasn’t in it (PHEW!)

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes! 🙂

  18. midlifetraveller / Nov 26 2012 9:47 am

    Happy belated birthday Dianne.

I’m loving reading your blog, and seeing your photos makes me a little homesick for farmlife as we used to have a grain and pig farm years ago here on the Darling Downs. Enjoy!!

    • diannegray / Nov 26 2012 9:54 am

Thank you so much (but you haven’t missed my birthday because it is today 😀 )

The Darling Downs is a beautiful place. Once you live in the country its very hard to live in the city – I’ve missed this place for years 😉 I’m so glad you like my blog

  19. justinwriter / Nov 26 2012 10:13 am

Happy Birthday! 🙂 Hope you have a great day.

Good to see lots of drama occurring up there. So many stories to write.

By the way, I hope you can keep us updated on the dove chicks.

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 5:35 am

There is something going on every day up here, Justin (I need to keep a diary on all the things that are happening so I can include them in a novel!)

Thank you for the Birthday wishes and I’ll let you know how the dove chicks go 😉

  20. jmmcdowell / Nov 26 2012 10:22 am

Happy Birthday/month! But I would totally freak out if I found a snakeskin by my computer!! I don’t think I’m cut out to be a country girl. 🙂

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 5:37 am

It does give you a bit of a fright! 😯

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes 😀

  21. Ni Made Sri Andani / Nov 26 2012 10:36 am

    A beautiful month. Happy birthday!

  22. Anna Hergert / Nov 26 2012 10:46 am

Happy Birthday, Dianne! Love the way you celebrate – my birthday is in late December… and by that time we are tired of celebrations and looking toward the new year… I must think about celebrating for a month – a novel idea! Thanks for sharing!

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 7:00 am

That’s a great idea, Anna! Start on 1 December and get in before all the Christmas parties – just say, ‘It’s my birthmonth today’ every day and you’ll have a constant celebration! 😀

  23. Don't Quote Lily / Nov 26 2012 10:50 am

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! And birthmonth! 😉 Man, snake skin under the laptop…that’s not something you see every day. Glad your friend is safe!

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 5:40 am

Thanks, Lily! I’m glad the laptop is white, otherwise I may not have noticed it! 😉

  24. cherylhuffer / Nov 26 2012 11:14 am

Love the birthday month! I only do a week because my birthday is two weeks after Christmas and it would be excessive to do much more. Happy Birthday!

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 7:03 am

What a great idea, Cheryl 😉 Thank you so much for coming by and for the birthday wishes! 😀

  25. mcwoman / Nov 26 2012 11:15 am

Happy Birthday, Diane! I too, have to extend my b-day to a b-month, so all of my friends can “make an appointment” to celebrate. This year they got smart, gathered together and surprised me at one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. We had a great time.

I’m not sure about snakes, though. The pig, the doves and the dogs would be fine, but I hate all things that slither. I don’t go well with things that sting or bite, either. Happy Day, my friend.

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 5:45 am

Hey Barbara – you are a woman after my own heart for doing the monthly celebration and what a lovely surprise from your friends! 🙂

I’m not too keen on thing that slither either, but my fear is rats (they breed them big up here!) and the snakes kill the rats and that’s good in my book.

Thank you for the best wishes 😀

  26. the secret keeper / Nov 26 2012 12:25 pm

Happy Birth Month, I was reading your story and your settling in and not having time to write. When you went to find your laptop and there was a snake skin I had the same reaction. You better watch out. Well, my partner heard my reaction and told me that finding a snake skin is a symbolic gift. When snakes slough their skin it is a sign of renewal, new beginnings and eternal life. So it is not a bad thing but finding the actual snake might not be such a good thing depending on the species. Snakes due tend to be good, though, about keeping unwanted creatures under control. Not that I advocate the killing of such creatures. Sorry to hear about your friend’s almost accident. That embankment looks rather ominous. Too bad about the water sight, which looks grand, now being infested with crocodilians. Great photography. Love all the animals. And you got to go to a Mexican restaurant for a surprise. Love Mexican food. 🙂 Jennifer j.k. the secret keeper

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 5:50 am

Thank you Jennifer! Someone else here said that the snake skin is a good omen, so I’m really excited that your husband also thinks so! 😀 I’m really afraid of rats and that’s why I don’t mind the snakes so much.

I’m so grateful my friend wasn’t hurt 😀

Thank you so much for coming by to read and comment 😉

  27. on thehomefrontandbeyond / Nov 26 2012 12:32 pm

Happy Birthday – my husband has a birthday month too–he is not usurping your territory as his birthday month is March

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 5:51 am

      Lucky – LOL!

Thank you for the best wishes 😀

  28. EllaDee / Nov 26 2012 12:38 pm

Happy Birthday to you – you’re giving the gifts to us in the photos and update on your move back up North… it is certainly all happening. I think this is the best blog post I have ever read! I didn’t even last a week after The Eleventh Question before I downloaded Let Sleeping Gods Lie which I consumed just as quickly, so interesting to see the prototype for one of the characters 🙂

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 5:55 am

Awww – thank you, Ella! What a beautiful compliment 😀 You really are such a darling 😀

I like using friends in stories, but I usually change their names – this time I didn’t for some reason, they are a wonderful family!

  29. mandyevebarnett / Nov 26 2012 1:23 pm

What a wonderfully eventful & surprising birthday you had…happy birthday

  30. Maddie Cochere / Nov 26 2012 2:50 pm

Happy Birthday, Dianne! I hope you’re having a wonderful day. Love the pictures and stories today. Can you repurpose that snakeskin into a bookmark?

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 5:58 am

Oh, Maddie – what a great idea! I’d be able to keep my place and scare everyone away from me while I’m reading as well! 😉

Thanks so much for the birthday wishes 😀

  31. jannatwrites / Nov 26 2012 2:55 pm

Happy birthday! Glad your friend survived the tractor adventure…it could’ve easily had a tragic ending. And those doves – how cute. I don’t know much about birds, or how good their hearing is, but it surprises me that they would nest so near the noisy action. I enjoyed your day in pictures- thanks for sharing them!

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 6:14 am

Thank you for the birthday wishes, Janna! 😀

I’m really surprised that the mother bird nested there as well – maybe she thought they would be safer with so much action going on around the place and that the noise may keep the snakes away from the chicks??? Just a guess… We used to have sun birds nesting around the party lights on our veranda (and that wasn’t a quiet place!) I can’t wait until the house is ready and that happens again because the pictures would be amazing 😀

  32. bulldogsturf / Nov 26 2012 3:00 pm

To start with a very Happy Birthday, and may there be many many more… I actually like the idea of celebrating for a month, a day seems so short and over quickly… if I drive a tractor today I will definitely stay away from embankments, thanks for the warning… as for a snake skin under the lap top… not sure that is conducive to writing, where either your eyes need to be on the screen or on the key board (like mine) it is going to be distracting waiting for the freshly skinned snake to make an appearance… have a good day….

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 6:16 am

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes 😀

Someone mentioned I should use the snakeskin for a book mark – I think that would be great because no one would disturb me while I’m reading 😉

  33. bodhisattvaintraining / Nov 26 2012 3:04 pm

Thanks for the tip – I’m staying away from embankments 🙂

    Happy Birthmonth x

Had some wildlife round here too – a huge spider helped me put the garbage out a little faster than usual last night..and a tiny lizard is loving the cool bathroom sink..

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 6:18 am

Hahaha – Annie, you did the ‘spider run’ while putting out the garbage! I love it 😀

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes 😉

  34. Bonnie at {PaperKeeper} / Nov 26 2012 3:32 pm

A cute little dog after my own name! I love it! 🙂 But most importantly blogging sister.. Happy Happy Birthday/month to you! Enjoy every bit of indulgence, pampering, treats that come your way! xo

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 6:19 am

Awww – thank you my darling! 😉 I love having you as my blogging sister 😀

I’ll be soaking up every bit of pampering I can get my hands on! 😉

  35. Kozo / Nov 26 2012 4:01 pm

Happy Birthday, Dianne. Actually, the snake skin matches your circumstances. In Asian culture, people born in the year of the snake have to “shed their skin” a few times in their lives–my memoir is tentatively titled “Shedding Skin.” This is usually a huge life change, like quitting one’s job and moving to a new place to start a new life and career. Sound familiar? I’m not sure if you were born in the year of the snake, but you definitely have shed your skin like your friend there. All the best to you on this new start and anniversary.

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 6:22 am

Wow, Kozo – I love this. It really is symbolic of my life at the moment You’ve just blown me away with this comment! 😀

Thank you so much for coming by and making my day 😉

  36. donnajeanmcdunn / Nov 26 2012 5:00 pm

Happy birthday month, Dianne. This is also my birthday month. I’ve been really busy too and haven’t had a chance to read any of my emails. I hope now that Thanksgiving is over and I’m almost done working with my editors on my book, I’ll have a little more time to socialize on the blogs I follow and do a little more writing on my next novel. I loved all the pictures, but especially the one of Bonnie. I’ve lived in farm country my whole life and I can say that your friend is very lucky he wasn’t hurt or killed. Every time I see my husband get on our tractor, I cringe.

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 6:28 am

Hey, Donna – Happy Birthday month to you too! 😀

Tractors and farm machinery are very dangerous, so I understand why you would cringe every time you see your husband get on the tractor. After this incident we sat around talked about people in the area who had been killed on farm machinery (there were a few too many for my liking!)

  37. Deborah Hawkins / Nov 26 2012 6:21 pm

Happy Birthday! I think a birthday should be a month-long celebration. The farm pictures are just wonderful. I loved visiting my grandparents’ farm when I was a child. I didn’t realize then that not everyone has farmers in the family and not everyone gets to visit a farm. Hope you have a fabulous and continuing celebration!

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 6:34 am

Thank you, Deborah – I’m so glad you agree about the month long celebration! It is a great idea 😉

Farms are wonderful places. My children loved growing up on the farm (especially the boys being able to ride motorbikes and learn to drive while they were young). They all live in cities now, but are really excited we’ve come back to live here because they’ve got a holiday destination! 😀

  38. grumpytyke / Nov 26 2012 6:23 pm

Just want to say ‘Happy birthday’ too

  39. angloswiss / Nov 26 2012 6:41 pm

Happy birthday. One of the beauties of living down under. Summer weather, nature at its best and celebrating a birthday in the sun. Mine is next week and I will be lucky if I don’t have snow in Switzerland.

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 6:38 am

Happy birthday for next week! 😀

Snow would be beautiful – do you think you could send some over here? It’s incredibly hot! 😀

  40. Vikki (The View Outside) / Nov 26 2012 7:59 pm

    I’m a day late! 😦

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY honey 🙂

I hope you had a wonderful day, and month 😉

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 6:40 am

I don’t think you’re a day late because this comment landed here on my birthday!!!! 😀

      Thank you, Vikki! 😉

  41. ramblingsfromamum / Nov 26 2012 8:58 pm

Firstly HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!… Though it is belated.
Secondly the razor back reminded me of the Movie argghhhh!
Thirdly I’m picking up Bonnie tomorrow.
Last but not least – YAY for the beer when he realised he was ok…true blue.
    Great shots (especially the foot).

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 6:41 am

Hahahaha! I’m glad you liked the foot. I was nearly going to take it out of the shot, but then thought twice about it because it showed how big the pig was!

Thank you for my birthday wishes – what a darling you are! 😀

  42. letizia / Nov 26 2012 11:56 pm

Happy Birthday!! Have a wonderful year!

Mo and Bonnie are so cute 🙂

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 6:43 am

      Thank you, Letizia 😀

I think the animals are really cute as well! 😉

  43. ly / Nov 27 2012 1:08 am

Happy Birthmonth to you! I would definitely have to find a new place to write because of the visitor there. Good luck with that. Nothing like visiting with old friends–the writing can wait.

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 6:44 am

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, Ly 😉

Someone suggested I use the snakeskin as a bookmark – I thought that would be a great idea because no one would disturb me while I was reading! 😀

  44. danpentagram / Nov 27 2012 1:22 am

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! – is it not weird that a snake skin was where you go to write? If that happened to me, i’d think i’d freeze and have a quick look around to make sure it still wasn’t around anymore. But alas, that’s probably the geographical differences affecting how behaviour. You just wouldn’t normally get a snake skin left on your desk here in England.

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 6:47 am

I did freeze and have a quick look around, Dan! I knew it was there somewhere so I checked under the desk, chair and in the rafters (I’m not really a brave person!).

Thank you so much for coming by to wish me happy birthday 😀

  45. ocdreader / Nov 27 2012 2:54 am

Happy Birthday day and month!! I always enjoy the b-day month as well. 🙂 – Love the pictures and stories to go along with them – have fun reconnecting and watch out for snakes, skins are ok, but when they are still attached…blegh!

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 6:50 am

Lol! Thank you Elisa – someone suggested I use the snakeskin as a bookmark, I love the idea because no one would disturb me while I’m reading!

I’m so glad you celebrate the birth month as well – you are a true soul sister! 😀

That is a great idea! You would look totally hard core with a snake skin poking out of your book – I love it.
Whole month all the way. It is too tough to fit all the fun and friends into one day, relax and fit it into 30 or so – lol

  46. markharwoodwriter / Nov 27 2012 3:49 am

Happy birthmonth, and great post – feels like it’s MY birthday.

Happy Birthday! I know so few people who love celebrating their birthdays, so I really got a kick to learn that you celebrate the whole month. Good for you. 🙂 Love all the pics, and I’m really happy your friend is safe and sound. My mother was on a runaway tractor once, and she had to throw herself off before it hit a tree. Scary stuff.

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 1:43 pm

Oh – good grief! Your poor mother, that would be very scary indeed! I hope she was okay 😯

Thank you so much for coming by to say hello and wish me happy birthday/month 😀

  49. poetmcgonagall / Nov 27 2012 8:59 am

Happy birthday! I’m beginning to see why you like your patch of country. Excellent pig.

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 1:44 pm

Thank you for the birthday wishes 😉

This patch is absolutely beautiful 😀

  50. Anna Scott Graham / Nov 27 2012 11:18 am

Happy birthday! My husband’s was earlier this month, and sometimes I think we’re still celebrating (or he’s still celebrating). 🙂

Those pictures, oh my goodness on a plethora of counts; first that your friend is well, whew! Then the snakeskin, oh good grief. That creek/riverbed is stunning, but no crocs. As for the razorback, aww! And the doggie too.

And again, a most happy birthday! November is a very good month for them, hee hee!

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 2:04 pm

There must be something about people born in November that makes them love their birthdays and not want to stop celebrating! 😉

I’m really glad you liked the pictures – and thank you so much for stopping by to wish me a happy birthday!! 😀

  51. IntrovertedSarah / Nov 27 2012 11:29 am

A very happy birthday to you. I too celebrate the whole month. One day just isn’t enough. 🙂

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 3:04 pm

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, Sarah! You’re a woman after my own heart! 😀

  52. Jacqui Murray / Nov 27 2012 1:32 pm

I need to quit my day job and wander around your farm. Except for the skinless snake, of course.

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 2:13 pm

Hahaha! It really is a beautiful place. Someone suggested I use that snakeskin for a bookmark – I’m going to, just so everyone stays right away from me when I’m reading 😀

  53. Ann Blanton / Nov 27 2012 2:38 pm

Happy Birthday Dianne! One day of celebration just isn’t enough.I celebrate all month too.

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 3:05 pm

Woo Hoo! I love that, Ann! It’s just to hard to fit everything in if it’s just one day 😀

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes 😉

  54. Irish Katie / Nov 27 2012 2:52 pm

    OMG at the snake skin!!!!

Nevertheless…..HAPPY BIRTHMONTH!!!!! (and birthday too *smiles*

    And one more thing …

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 3:11 pm

Woooo Hooooo!!!! I love party time 😀

Loads of *hugs* and *smiles* to you too 😀

  55. The Bumble Files / Nov 27 2012 3:11 pm

Happy BIrthday, Dianne! I hope it’s a lovely one. I love the little dog. She looks sweet. But I hope you don’t see anymore snakes on your laptop. Yikes!

    • diannegray / Nov 27 2012 3:36 pm

I’ve been told the snake skin would make a great book mark! 😉 The little dog is an absolute sweetheart.

Thank you so much for stopping by to wish me a happy birthday 😀

  56. gabrielablandy / Nov 28 2012 12:56 am

Seeing as you celebrate the whole month I don’t need to worry that I missed your birthday! Happy birthday. This post was gorgeous – love all those stories, and the photos of the animals. I want that pig!!

    • diannegray / Nov 28 2012 7:01 am

This is the beauty of the monthly celebration – no one ever misses my birthday 😀

The animals are very cute! The pig thinks he’s a dog 😉

  57. Lynne Ayers / Nov 28 2012 2:42 am

First, happy birthday! and I don’t need to apologize because I’m not late since you are celebrating the WHOLE month. One of my daughters, also a November girl, calls it her birthday extravaGANza month. Must be something to do with November babies. Secondly, snake in the laptop eeyyyeeeeww shudder shiver – aligators? really? – and Bonnie probably didn’t want to be left alone with that razorback Mo – did you think of that? Happy birthday month – what’s left of it. 😉

    • diannegray / Nov 28 2012 7:11 am

Hahaha! Thanks Lynne! Yes – I see what you mean, Bonnie’s eyes are very pleading, aren’t they!!

Someone mentioned I should use the snakeskin as a bookmark – I thought it was a great idea because no one will want to come near and disturb me while I’m reading!

You’re daughter sound fabulous. I love her birthday extravaGANza!! It must be typical of November babies because a few ‘November people’ have told me they love to celebrate the entire month as well 🙂

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes!!! 😀

      • Lynne Ayers / Nov 28 2012 9:10 am

It must be that November is usually such a dreary grey month – except this year – we have had a glorious sunny November and those words don’t usually appear in the same sentence.

  58. adinparadise / Nov 28 2012 3:26 am

There’s an award for you on my blog. Congratulations. 🙂

  59. ivfmale / Nov 28 2012 6:59 am

Sounds like a great way to celebrate your birthday!
    Happy Birthday. Love the photos.

What breed is Bonnie btw? Looks like a King Charles Cocker. Just curious.

    • diannegray / Nov 28 2012 7:39 am

I think she is a King Charles. Her owner breeds them – she is a professional photographer (a million times better than me at taking pics) and she has some beautiful photos of all her dogs. That picture of Bonnie was the only one that worked for me from the dozen or so that I took!

Thanks for coming by to wish me a happy birthday! 😀

  60. Zen A. / Nov 28 2012 7:23 am

Happy birthday, Dianne! Sounds like you had a great day. I hope you’ll show us pictures of your cake too. 😉

    • diannegray / Nov 28 2012 7:43 am

Oh no! I didn’t take any pics of the cake – it disappeared too quickly! 😦

Thank you so much for stopping by to say hello and happy birthday! It was a great day/month 😉

  61. escapingdarkness / Nov 28 2012 12:09 pm

Hope you had a great birthday. Kat 🙂

  62. Christina / Nov 29 2012 4:29 am

Happy belated birth-day-month 😉 Enjoy it to the fullest!

  63. pixilated2 / Nov 30 2012 12:09 am

Oh, I’m late to the party! But since you are celebrating all month, then I guess I’m not too late. Happy Birthday, Dianne! What a beautiful place to live! I can understand why you would want to move back there. ~Lynda

    • diannegray / Nov 30 2012 6:42 am

Thank you, Lynda – you’re certainly not late to the party (I think it ends tomorrow) 🙂

It is a beautiful place – many lovely rivers and mountains! 😀

  64. cocoaupnorth / Dec 1 2012 9:07 pm

This is just what I needed today, Dianne. Lovely, non-judging animals. Thank you!

Awww – thank you, Jacqui. I’m so glad you liked this 😉

Happy birthday, five months late! You and my husband have the same birthday, and mine is Nov. 7th. Of course, since you are in Australia, you can never celebrate on the same day. Love your story! Rattlesnake skin in your computer! Yikes. Dove chicks in the industrial shed – adorable, but highly improbable in most circumstances! Tractor overboard – YIKES! What an adventure packed life you live. Hope is has been just as adventurous every day since! 🙂
