Little Shop of Pictures

I take lots of photos of the ‘farm dog’, Tammy, on my daily dog walk. The reason behind this is that her parents, (my mother and father-in-law) can’t join in on this daily ritual. So, (as they say in the corporate world) I like to keep them in the loop.

This is one of their favourites. They have it laminated and stuck on the fridge with pictures of the grandchildren and great grandchild. I would have taken similar shotsย of my dogs but they don’t know the meaning of sit and stay when they’re playing in the fields.

Tammy1

My work has been going well. I landed a job a few months back writing content for a Government website and I love it. I work in my pajamas from home and the Writer’s Nook is the perfect office ๐Ÿ˜€

I’ve been obsessed with digital art lately and my hubby is now calling the RUC the Little Shop of Pictures. I took a photo of a passion-fruit flower several weeks ago and wanted to do something special with it. But passion-fruit flowers are so awesome and beautiful that I was stumped. Nothing I could do could make it look better than the real thing.

Then hubby saw the photo and said, “I’d love to see the inside of that flower the way the bees see it.”
I thought, “Okay, why don’t you make it a little harder for me, dude!” Sheesh! Some people are so fussy creative.

Anyway, I played around with it for a while and came up with the first of my two ***Arty Bits*** for this week.

I call it A Bees-Eye View

Passionfruit Flower1

ย The second piece I’ve been working on is a bunch of flowers with the illusion that they are in a glass bowl.

So far this one doesn’t have a name

Flowerwarp2

My daughter is arrivingย from Melbourne on Sunday night for a four day visit and I’m scrambling through the joint trying to get everything ready for her. She has a blog – Little Food Blog – so I’m looking forward to trying some of her tasty treats when she gives the RUC kitchen a good working over! Don’t worry – there will be pictures ๐Ÿ˜€

Have a great week! xxxxx

Love you’re bees-eye-view pic. I’ve seen other sorts of pictures like that taken under infrared or UV light that also show what the bees actually see. Some flowers have all sorts of other features that the human eye can’t see to help attract the bees: landing strips or the silhouette of other insects, for example.

Stunning Arty Bits flower photos. I remember the first time I saw a passionfruit flower… because it was only a decade ago! Somehow I’d just focussed on the fruit my whole life. I was convinced it was an exotic alien bloom. But was impressed to learn it was the precursor to the humble passionfruit. Now I have my very own passionfuit vines, once which fruits and the other is an vibrant red ornamental.

My cousins used to have passionfuit vines on their verandah in Wauchope and I ate heaps of them as a kid. Strangely enough – I never noticed the flowers until about ten years ago as well. I think as kids we’re so focussed on the fruit that we don’t even notice the flower! They’re absolutely beautiful ๐Ÿ˜€
