What is twerking? What is love? What the…?

I was surfing the web while eating breakfast the other morning (Vegemite on toast – very Aussie) when I happened to stumble across Google Trends/Top Charts.

I went to a page called What did the World Search for in 2013? (Australia). I then looked at the title What Is? The #1 search term recorded by Google for 2013 was What is twerking? The #2 search term was What is love?

I had a bit of a giggle and was not sure what to make of it. I’ve asked the universe (not Google) a few times in my life what is love? but I’ve never asked it what is twerking?

So I joined in the party and Googled What is the difference between twerking and love? To my absolute amazement there were no answers – what’s the world coming to?

In America the top search terms were #1 What is Twerking and #2 What is Ricin (I’m hoping this is just a Breaking Bad influence and not a sinister trend).

In the UK the top search terms were #1 What is Twerking and #2 What is my IP

In Canada the top search terms were #1 What is Twerking and #2 What is fracking

Can you see a trend here?

Other interesting stats:

Top searches that start with How To

  1. How to Draw
  2. How to Kiss

Top searches that start with Did

  1. Did Turtleman die?
  2. Did Jesus exist?

Needless to say, the top trending searches for 2014 are mostly related to the World Cup.

So I decided to look through my (all time) site stats to check out the top search terms.

Drum roll…

#1 Dianne Gray (lucky that’s my name)

#2 Laughing cat (okay, this is weird)

#3 Snake (it’s getting worse)

Try it out, you may be surprised (and weirded out like I was).

The cane harvesting season has now started, bringing a flurry of activity to the farm. Our sugar cane hasn’t been cut yet, but I’ve got the camera on the ready to share with you once they start.

Until then, for your viewing pleasure I happened to capture this magnificent rainbow the other morning. It’s odd how the light below the rainbow is brighter than above it, but this is exactly how it looked.

Rainbow

Let me know if you have any strange search terms in your stats

Have a great week all!

Wow, you can adjust the search for various time periods, too. My number one search is “two rock chronicles,” the name of the blog. After that–it’s all about emus. Cool and informative tip.

Fascinating insight into people’s minds and concerns… I wonder if the people who entered the search terms were satisfied with the links they clicked on…
For mine overall most popular were search terms with endless variations involving ‘ginger cat’, ‘dream of a ginger cat’, including ‘ginger cat on a motorbike’…; eupham graham and associated convict history – links to my the G.O.’s convict family history post; port stephens – they would have got value there; inner city life… – I’m an expert on that!; ‘what does an [sic] cranky old woman wear’, and ‘google, cranky old women’ – they have my measure…; but not sure they would have found help with ‘how do I get tannin out of my stainless steel teapot’ and ‘can I use a putty knife for grouting in small places’…
That rainbow is truly viewing pleasure 🙂

It is a fascinating insight. I guess it just goes to show what happens when a young singer decides to go all out with the weird stuff. People must have been very interested in the word itself (I’m guessing). Love and twerking couldn’t be further apart – it’s just weird! 😉

But I think my favourite so far is “what does an [sic] cranky old woman wear” – good grief! Why would anyone Google this – I’ll be laughing all day at this one 😀

Apparently everyone on my site uses ‘unknown search terms’. We have that info courtesy of Google who apparently encrypts many of them so they can’t be displayed! But thanks for the reminder to actually go look at them.

As for ‘twerking’ – I have teenaged kids – amazing the stuff I learn! My scariest google search came when I started to type ‘side dishes to’ – first one that popped up was ‘go with ham’ – which is what I was making that night. I never make ham – how did it know! Sometimes that engine scares me with it’s accuracy. Tonight if I type ‘How’, it pops up with ‘I met your mother’. Don’t really need to know that thanks. 😉

Bushman’s hole is a great one, Rob! Gave me a good giggle this morning 😀 It’s amazing how people know to search by your name (considering you use Bulldog) this must be a testament to your photographic or tech reputation.

We don’t burn the cane here anymore, the farmers cut ‘green’. They do, however, burn the trash left over after the cut. They only stopped burning about 10 years ago due to pressure from the greens.

I need to do more sanding and there’s a heap of work, but I usually sit down for a couple of hours in the morning and read the online news, blogs, etc 😉

Unfortunately, Google’s gone and spoilt all the fun we had last year – https://beeblu.wordpress.com/2013/03/18/search-engine-poetry-search-me/ -with search engine poetry by encrypting all search terms. Heh, heh. Funny! I can’t believe the #1 for them all was a twerk search!

And, what a beautiful rainbow. Very unique. 🙂

LOL! What is the world coming to? Twerking? I was pretty surprised as well. Oh dear! 😀

Well that is weird – but extremely interesting, Dianne. I’m guessing that Madonna invented twerking. Not the term but what it means! And what is love? … clearly not enough people remember the Beatles (All You Need Is Love). Thanks for a most entertaining post (and comments)! I’m always smiling or laughing when I leave here! 😀

Thank you so much, Penny! 😀 It was Miley Cyrus who was the awful twerker last year 😉

I find it hopeful for the world that people are looking at the word love on the net xxxx

Yeah I knew it was Miley that started the twerking bit. I saw a cool film last week about the 80’s and Madonna’s first appearance at the MTV Music Awards. Everyone’s mouth dropped open. She was blatantly twerking, lol! I agree with you about Love! 🙂 xoxo

OH – so it must have been Maddona who started the whole thing. I didn’t know that Penny – thank you! 😀
