Interesting reflections
One of my dogs (Casey – see how much she’s grown!) has interesting eyes. She looks like she’s wearing Egyptian eye make-up with black lines that run from the corners of her eyes outward.
Yesterday on our walk to the creek I decided to use my phone to take a picture of her eyes. The picture doesn’t really show how nice her eyes are but I did see something interesting when I magnified it.
If you look closely you can see my silhouette in her eyes.
Woah – I wonder what she’s thinking as I’m standing there reflected in her eyes?
Later in the evening I grabbed my camera and took a picture of the moon. On closer examination I realised I’d captured some of the landscape in the shadows. I think it’s pretty cool!

Took a macro photo of a plant leave once and spotted a tiny web strung from it, and the creator was there, as well. I could never have seen this with the naked eye.

I don’t take enough pictures to have that. All though I once took a picture in an old house and there was a shadow where there shouldn’t have been! Unfortunately I don’t have the photo anymore, but it always made me wonder.
Your dog is beautiful 🙂 and the moon looks so neat that way!

It actually is very similar! Maybe I look good in silhouette shots so they just keep popping up (LOL). Casey thinks she’s the best looking and most lovable dog in the world (and she is pretty cute) 😉

One wonders about how we ‘reflect’ in the eyes of our pets. Other than your reflection, I see a loyal companion–but one that questions just what you’re up to with that camera-thing.

Haaaa! She was a bit perplexed. We joke about how pretty she thinks she is. But she has never actually seen a reflection of herself (and probably wouldn’t know what it was if she did) so that’s just us placing our human perception of vanity on her.
She’s very loyal indeed and is always bringing me things so she’s a ‘collector’. I’m wondering if she’s got some retriever in her line somewhere.

Love dogs. Mine’s named Casey, too. I stare into his eyes and know I shouldn’t–they don’t like that, but I can’t help it. He’s probably used to me.

What a superb entry! I love photography, dogs, and the movie “Blow Up”, and you referenced all three. (If you haven’t seen it, in Blow Up, the photographer uncovers a murder weapon by repeatedly enlarging a single frame of an outdoor snapshot closer and closer until you see the gun barrel sticking out of a bush.)
I recently read that dogs have at least a hundred times our visual acuity – the ability to resolve linear detail. The only advantage we have is our interpretive pre-frontal brain cortex. I so love staring into Finnegan’s eyes, even though it makes him nervous.

I haven’t seen ‘Blow Up’ but will keep an eye out for it, Mikey. I read in the news the other day that someone had developed a system where reflections in eyes can now be highly developed and hopefully will be good enough soon to be used in legal cases – very intriguing indeed!

Blow Up is from 1966. Here’s an even earlier reflection from a 1951 movie I helped restore. Sorry about the sinister subject, but it’s still cool as a brilliant piece of photography.

I love this!! Your image of the moon is just awesome! I have done something like that more than once and love those surprises. Most recently, was taking portrait shots of some of my students, and was focused on their face, of course (duh, it’s a portrait!) and made sure that the background was framed correctly, no trees sticking out of their head, etc. Only later when downloading to submit them to our design office, did I realize that the background had the bokeh effect and got two completely new kind of artsy images out of the student portraits once I re-cropped. Great suprises! Keep snapping shutterbug!

Brilliant… I have taken many photos and when home and working them on the laptop discovered all sorts of other things… I was in a bird hide taking photos of a heron, when I got home, I discovered a crocodile, a huge one behind the bird that no one saw…

Yikes! Those crocs can be very deceptive at times. I used to work in a crocodile farm and have seen them hide an inch below the water and you would never know they were there. When they’re lying in the mud or dirt, they can also be quite invisible. They’re absolutely amazing creatures! 😀

I like the surprises you saw. The silhouette is so interesting (could be a fun gravatar!) I’ve taken photos where I do notice things later… it helps to view them on the computer. Often it’s something else that made it into the frame while my attention was focused on the intended subject.
One of my cats (the black tabby) has cream coloring around her eyes that looks like eyeliner. The orange tabby (my older son’s cat) has a vertical line that goes down the center of her nose – one side is lighter than the other. Their colorings can be fascinating if we take time to really look at them 🙂

The colourings of animals can be amazing when we really take the time to look at them. Casey’s sister is black and white and she has red lips – we joke that she puts her lipstick on every morning 😀

Pollution is something I rarely think about, but you’re right – no pollution between my place and the moon (and I should be very grateful for that every day!) 😀

Your Casey has such an intelligent gaze. If only there was some way to truly communicate with animals.
Your silhouette in her eyes is quite artistic. Same with the moon shot. I would love to visit the moon. If the chance to do so ever arose, I’d be on it in a heartbeat (even though I know my mother would never approve!)

Julie is the picture taker – I usually cut the corners off with my fingers – shows up white! I’ve got great excuses these days — just blame on aging! Did see your reflection in the eyes of Casey! I think Casey’s soul reflects out of his eyes, and your soul reflects into his. That’s what I think! But we are both ‘dog people,’ and we see things that sometimes others don’t.

Great photos! I find myself taking more now that I have a Galaxy S4 with a really good camera on it. Some of those are finding there way onto my blog, too. I know I don’t have to worry about copyright and such with those. 🙂 Casey isn’t looking too much like a puppy these days! 🙂

That’s soooo cool! Seeing a picture of yourself reflected in the eye of another, in this case a beautiful dog. There’s the seeds of a whole philosophical discussion in there somewhere:-) And the moon photo is stunning. I’m obsessed with reflection pix! I think they’re the coolest.
Mr. H. took a really neat one of me while we were in Montreal. I’m smiling the smile I reserve just for him and he is reflected in my sunglasses taking the picture and smiling the smile reserved for me. It’s a very perfect depiction of us.
