Cool sleep-over

I had a sleep-over at the RUC on Friday night. It was my first sleep-over since the entire house was moved to the farm (on the back of a truck). What a brilliant and relaxing sleep I had! I normally wake up at 4:00 am, but I slept in and woke up at 5:00 wondering who was shining a light through my bedroom window. At first I thought it was aliens.

aliens

But then I realised it was just the moon and I’d moved the camera while I was taking the shot (hey – it’s was 5:00 am, remember).

I’ve always loved the moonset over the mountains.

Moonset

I saw a stick insect on the avocado tree. I wouldn’t have noticed it if it didn’t have it’s wings spread.

Stick Insect

I saw a gecko eating a moth (good little gecko!)

Gecko eating moth

It’s the first time my dogs have seen the RUC and they weren’t so keen on the temporary stairs (they’ve lived a sheltered life and have never seen stairs before). It’s easier to get up than it is to come down.

Dogs

Dogs on stairs

They met the ‘farm dog’ and didn’t know what to make of her at first. My German shepherd tried to mount her (even though he’s neutered) and she snapped at him. Just because she’s a farm dog doesn’t mean the city ring-ins can have their way with her. After a few hours my two dogs followed her Indian-file everywhere.

Following farm dog

Saturday my muse attacked me and I worked on my WIPs while hubby went to the creek and caught mud-crabs for dinner 😀

Mud crabThey look mean above, but very sweet on my dinner plate.

Mud crabs

I hope you’re all having a great weekend!

Those crabs are in the creek just waiting to be caught? That lot would cost a small fortune here. An what a great accidental moon picture.

I wasn’t going to put the moon picture in because I messed it up, but when I looked at it again I thought it was pretty cool! 😉

Mud crabs at the creek are brilliant. We used to live on them ‘in the old days’ when my kids were little. When we moved to the city they kept asking us why we didn’t have mud crabs for dinner every night! LOL – too expensive, kids 😉

I hope someday you’ll invite me over. You have the most amazing creatures living there! Love the stick insect, and the crabs make me hungry. As for the dogs… mounting is usually a sign of forced dominance. My dog does it to other dogs and sometimes cats to say, “I’m #1.” 🙂

It didn’t work too well for my dog – he got a swift and painful, ‘NO’ – LOL, so he just shrugged his shoulders and went on his way. The farm dog may be small and demure looking, but she’s as tough as they come (and now the leader of the pack here).

I thought the stick insect was very cool – I never realised they had those red wings and I’m so glad I got the shot 😀

Note to self: don’t wade barefoot in Dianne’s creek. 😀

The dogs have had a ball here, they’re both exhausted from all the excitement and now run up and down the stairs like they were born on them! I’m teaching them not to barge past me and they’re doing very well at ‘waiting’ until I’m up or down.

I’ve had a great weekend, Nancy. I haven’t sanded any doors, I’ve just relaxed and had a bit of a holiday 😀

I’m glad you’re teaching the dogs “stair etiquette” AND that you’ve taken a much deserved “holiday.”

It’s Memorial Day weekend in the states ~ 3 day weekend for lots of folks, with record numbers of boaters in the inter-coastal waterway. We went for a short boat ride on Sarasota Bay after visiting the farmer’s market this morning. Now we’re in the A/C.

Your first RUC sleep over coincided with a Super Moon and eclipse… a very good sign that your old to new move is on the right track… I laughed at your FIRST thought being aliens 😀
If the dogs are there, then it must be home now, plus you’ve christened it with a big feed of mud crabs… with fantastic left overs on toast for breakfast, even better.
And, you’ve found more creatures… the stick insect’s wings are beautiful, who knew 🙂

What fun! I know getting to sleep in the RUC means you are getting closer to being done! Yea!
Is the gecko on a wall? The crab looks scary both off and on the plate. I don’t eat any kind of water creatures. Never learned to like them. I have a mantra; I never eat anything that swims in its own toilet! 😛
We are on a three-day holiday here, but with the tornado, it doesn’t seem important. We aren’t actually doing anything, except cleaning around here.
When will the RUC be completed? Did you get all your “to do” lists done before your company arrived?

Sometimes those “flubbed” shots are the best. 🙂 Glad to see the “country girl” will be the leader of the pack. Why should the “city boys” always get their way? And those crabs look like awfully good eating! And they would cost a small fortune here in the States. 😀

We used to live here when my children were young and when we moved to the city they would ask why they couldn’t have their usual mud crab dinner every night – um, because it’s SO expensive to buy! Now they’re all grown up they’re really going to enjoy feasting on crab again when they come to visit 😀

The ‘country girl’ is a beautiful dog and she whipped those spoiled ‘city dogs’ into shape quick smart – LOL 😉

I can’t believe those live in your creek! We can catch crawfish, those make me nervous enough to dip my toes in! Pretty wild.
Love the pictures! My dog just learned how to navigate the stairs. For years he refused to go into my husbands lair and the cat had a refuge, no longer!

I’m glad your dog learned to navigate the stairs – it must be terrifying for them at first 😯

The creatures at your part of the world are just so … other worldly. And wow on the crabs. When was the last time anyone (besides you) ever heard someone say, ‘my husband went down to the creek to get some crabs for dinner?” Wow.

As for the puppers…yahhhhh….the looks on their faces were priceless lol. And also….yahhh for ‘no means no’, even in doggie land!

It was a big job at first, Maddie, because the dogs were a little… erm…lets say, ‘out of control’ and I had to block any unfinished parts of the veranda so they didn’t fall off! 😯 But in the end it was well worth the effort 😀

Crab is my absolutely favourite dinner/snack so it’s handy they like to live so close to the RUC! 😉

The dogs cracked me up. I guess they must sense the “void” between each step and think there is no way they’re doing that. My dog is the same about the water grates in the streets. She walks a wide arc around them. Love the moon, too! What a fun time.
