Fjord Blue

I’ve had a busy and rather eventful break over the holidays – yes I know I’m a little late returning back to the fold but life got in the way. In early February I got some kind of hideous allergy and my eyes went red and bulged like a goldfish – and if that wasn’t bad enough, hubby got an infection on his knee and spent the first half of the month laid up in hospital. He likes to think he’s super so when they told me he had an antibiotic-resistant superbug in his leg I knew he’d gone just a little too far this time.  I couldn’t drive in to visit him because of my eyes, but my neighbour graciously took up the cause and acted as my chauffeur (thanks Joey).

After a load of antihistamines for me and a good team of doctors working around the clock for hubby, we’re both back to normal and getting on with things. All that nearly came to an end on our first dog walk after hubby came out of the hospital when he accidentally trod on a black snake – luckily it slithered off into the bushes as soon as he lifted his foot off its back. I’m sure he has nine lives!

I was really happy to receive a wonderful review from Jacqui Murray for my novel Wolf Pear. Jacqui is the author of To Hunt a Sub and Building a Midshipman and she gives awesome tips on writing, as well as sharing great descriptions and quotes on her blog WordDreams.

I’ve now got a balustrade on my ‘under-house’ stairs so there’ll be no more gripping onto walls for me as I run down to hang the clothes on the line. The fjord blue colour features a lot on the rails and doors on the outside of the RUC and is in keeping with the original Queenslander design of the house.

I hope everyone out there is well and got off to a better start to 2017 than we did.

***Have a great week***

The majority of people in the US are still upset and worried about our new president, but otherwise, things aren’t too bad. I like the blue stairs. 🙂 Glad to hear you and your husband have recovered. I don’t suppose you got a pic of the black snake…?

Haaaa – the black snake was SO fast that hubby didn’t even see it. He stepped on it and then it wrapped around his leg and then sprung off into the bushes. I thought it had bitten him. The first thing he said t me was ‘What colour was it?’ I said it was black and blue and he said, ‘oh good’. They must be the non-poisonous type 😀

The blue is so pretty–I’ve always been drawn to blues, ever since I was little. I’m glad your husband only got hugged by the snake and not bitten!! Congrats on the wonderful review of Wolf Pear, and I’m not surprised. That book was awesome!!

Love your blue balustrade, Dianne. I wish I had stairs to go up and down here in Florida, but alas, two storey houses aren’t very common here. So sorry about your medical issues, but glad you’re both back to normal now. I don’t think I’d like to have a snake around, whatever colour it was. Are they venomous? Well done on your great review of Wolf Pear. xx

Those black snakes with the blue underbelly are called Blue Travelers (or blue tree snake) they’re very shy and not venomous (however if you did get bitten you’d probably get blood poisoning because they don’t clean their teeth very often) 😀 BUT (and there’s always a BUT) – any snake in the wild can be venomous and you don’t always have time to check the colour of it’s underbelly, so avoidance and fast feet are always recommended. The other great snake around here is the green tree snake but I haven’t seen one in years so I’m worried they might be dying out.

It’s nice having upstairs/downstairs. We’ve got the upstairs finished and the next big project will be the downstairs (or man-cave as hubby calls it).

Very briefly: I slipped off a curb when the sun got in my eyes and blinded me for an instant – dislocated my right elbow, breaking the ulna and humerus in multiple places, tore two ligaments and the nerve. Medically identified as a Terrible Triad. Four hour surgery to repair, implanting a 4 inch stainless steel plate and six pins plus a titanium pin, two months in casts and sling, months of therapy for fingers, elbow, and shoulder. I’m still doing physical therapy and it will be as healed as it’s going to be by early July.

The good stuff: I never passed out, never cried, didn’t hit my head or injure my back, was able to get myself to safety, I don’t have a terminal illness or incurable disease. I do have a bit of a fear of curbs and steps now, and a great appreciation for the Kaiser medical teams that cared for me. I’ve been able to write again (couldn’t even use the computer for more than 30 minutes a day for a while) and looking forward to painting again – thus my affinity for fjord blue paint. ❤

Welcome back ♡ Congrats on the great review. And I’m happy you’re both recovered🤕
I laughed about the word ‘accidentslly’… as opposed to deliberately stepping on a snake 😆 It’s that time of the year. We’ve had a few snakes around, several small browns with bad attitudes in the wrong places, a Bandy Bandy at the back door -we didn’t let him in and he slithered off under the house, and our Green Tree Snake is a regular [diner on the Green Tree Frogs].
I’ve been popping in, out and around the blogosphere and settling back into day-to-day life, and a Horticulture course at Coffs Tafe.
I love Fjord Blue balustrade… more cheerful than Henry Ford black.

I had a run-in with a Bandy Bandy many years when I was staying at my uncles farm in Wauchope and also a mishap with some eggs from a black snake that I thought were chicken eggs 😀 You’re lucky you’ve got a green tree snake, they’re so pretty.
I would LOVE to do a Horticulture course and was considering starting one last year but it was just to expensive for me (all the money goes to the house).
It’s great to see you here and I’m looking forward to hearing more about the course xxxx

Yep, when our budget stretches it’s slways for the house. So my course fee for Cert III for the year was only $240. The full price was over $9K. Bargain. Tafe NSW offers various options depending on income, circumstances and which courses they are promoting. I got lucky with all 3.

Well, THERE you are. What an inglorious start of the year you and your hubby had. Ugh. Infections these days are really scary- i’ve had three different friends-all males-hospitalized in the last year with mysterious infections also. And each time it took a while for the hospital to figure out how to treat them. But they’re all up and about, though none of them has stepped on a snake as far as I know! 🙃 I hope your eyes feel great now – we love getting pictures of the view from your world. 💙
