Scary Gully

I was walking the dogs around Scary Gully on Saturday when my hubby decided to take a rear shot of me. He says I’m a serious walker.

Serious1

Scary Gully is to my left and curls around in front of me. I’ve never been down there because, well – it’s scary…

It’s a fifteen metre (50 foot) drop into a gully that looks like Jurassic Park. One day I’ll take it on and get some pics for you (just joking mum)…

The dogs have ventured down there – only once which tells you something because they’re pretty stupid brave

Do you like my boots? They’re purple with green polka dots.

I carry refreshments in my backpack (beer, water, biscuits).

I carry weapons in my side pack (machete, secateurs, small spade, nail file) – don’t mess with me.

Note to mum: I’m not wearing a hat because our walks take place late afternoon.

BootsThese boots may be old, but they’ve still got that razzle-dazzle.

The laces may come in handy one day if I have to lasso my way out of Scary Gully.

I’m sending out a big thank you today to Carrie Rubin (do you follow her blog? if not, you should) for her review of my novel Let Sleeping Gods Lie.

Have a great week!

❤ ❤ ❤

Dianne it sounds like a great place to get inspiration for a horror story. Love your serious walking gear.

I do indeed love your boots. And judging by your photo, you have gorgeous long legs with which to show them off!

Thanks for the mention. I enjoyed your book very much, just as I have your others. You’re such a talented writer. 🙂

      It’s my pleasure to mention you, Carrie – you’re a star 😀

They used to call me ‘legs 11’ at school. I was always upset about it but as you get older you realise it’s not such an insult lol 😉

I hope the conference is going well for you xxxx

It was a great conference. Just returned from New York today. It was ThrillerFest. Saw lots of famous authors, and I came home with 14 books, 12 of which were free!

        Later, Legs 11. 😉

Yes, you definitely do look like a “serious walker.” Love the boots. They’re fun, but I’m not sure about the machete, although I guess one always has to be prepared for all eventualities. Is the spade for burying the bodies you’ve attacked with your machete? 😯 I wouldn’t like to get on the wrong side of you. 🙂

LOL – yes, that’s what the spade is for 😀 (I’ll laugh about that all day, Sylvia – not too loud though)
I’ve actually needed to use the machete a couple of times when the dogs have been caught in vines at the creek (on the vines, not the dogs) and the spade is for digging up little plants -there are some lovely ferns, native ginger, orchids, monstera and banana plants that I often lug home 😉

You are a very serious walker Dianne, prepared for everything, gorgeous gumboots for tracking through mud and across streams, machete for hacking through the undergrowth, a decent sized back pack carrying supplies to last forever if you get lost. a spade for!!!! (well all campers know you have to have a spade in the bush), and of course a nailfile the ultimate weapon of choice (a girl has to keep her nails sharp and looking good)…. Wow I couldn’t resist if that was me Dianne. I guess Oz is so huge you don’t need to know every square inch. The word ‘gully’ was a word we used in Birmingham long ago for alleyways or cuts between and behind houses – our secret worlds. Love the pic.

One day I’ll do the trek down there, Roy. I’ll probably need tougher protective gear (the largest taipan in the world was found in this area – Guinness Book of Records) so I’d need very hardy long sleeves and maybe leather pants (okay – that sounds weird!) 😉 I’d probably also need a gun because I’m sure this is a superhighway for razorback pigs. If I do go in, I’ll take a video camera as well. Wish me luck! 😀

I looked up taipan because I had no idea what it is. Turns out it’s one of the most venomous and largest and aggressive snakes in the world. Were it me going into that gully, I’d be inside an armored tank. Course, were it really me, I wouldn’t go anywhere near the place. Don’t you have any nice shopping malls in Australia?

That Australian friend you have is right – no one messes with the Aussie women. The protective stuff – the largest taipan in the world (Guinness Book of Records) was found in this area. Don’t worry the razor-back pigs in the gully would probably kill a snake before I could get to it LOL 😀

The machete would probably be useless if i encountered a razor-back pig, but I’m not keen on guns 😉 So I mainly use it to chop through undergrowth near the creek to pick nice orchids to take home 😉
