Building fences
Because our dog Casey thinks she’s half kangaroo we’ve had to build a higher fence around the RUC. It’s not that she wants to escape (I’m sure she could do that in an instant) it’s just that sometimes creatures run by and she wants to chase and play with them (bandicoots, wild cats, pigs). She just can’t help herself. This concerns me because there is a danger she may inadvertently knock over my mother or father-in-law in her excited state (and they’re not very steady on their feet).
Hence the fence:
It’s very straight (that’s probably important when it comes to fences)
We didn’t have enough wood so we inserted some of the iron that was left over after we put on the new roof.
I think it looks kind of trendy.
My daughter has also been putting up fences around her house because she has just welcomed a new pack family member.
He’s huge.
He’s ferocious.
His name is Boris.
Here he is with my daughter, Chrissy (from Little Food Blog).
Boris is a Toy Cavoodle. He Skyped us the day he arrived at his new home with my daughter and her hubby. He wasn’t very talkative, but I’m sure he’ll be yapping at us through the screen soon.
He’ll love going on our daily dog walk (in my back pack) when he comes to visit.
I don’t have a picture of Boris’ fence because it’s not as HUGE as the one I had to build.

As for the fence, it’s a shame you had to put it up, but protecting your fur babies is important. I like the metal too.

Boris is very cute indeed 🙂 He may grow to a foot (or two). I’m sure when he comes to visit he’ll need to be carried around the dog walk so we don’t lose him in the rainforest 😉

That fence is quite hip! It works. I like it, and it looks especially strong. Half kangaroo, huh? I’m sure my cat is half-kangaroo or at least half bunny, but he’s not breaking any fences and we don’t have any wild creatures running around. It all sounds so exotic where you are, Dianne! Your daughter is absolutely gorgeous. I’m sure little Boris will have fun riding around in your backpack.

I think the fence is very cool as well, Amy. My father-in-law wasn’t so sure about it because in the old days you could tell if people were poor because their fences weren’t made of all wood (they’d throw old iron in here and there). We had to convince him that it’s trendy now. I’m still not sure if he’s come around to our way of thinking yet! 😉

Your fence does indeed look trendy! By the way, I told my family about your snake story (and how he seems to want to roam around in your ceiling…) I got creeped out even talking about it, but needless to say my teen sons thought it was very cool. Not sure they’d say that if they found it in their own bathroom though. Talk is cheap, but their reactions would probably speak volumes. 😉

I’m sure the boys would think it was fantastic knowing there was a snake in the ceiling (particularly if it scared the life out of their mom!) I heard some heavy tapping in the ceiling last night and knew it had caught a fairly big rat. I slept well knowing that it was full (LOL) 😉

I’m glad you like the fence, my father-in-law thought it made us look poor because it had corrugated iron in it (an old idea when people didn’t have enough money to buy wood) lol. We told him it’s all the trend now 😉

Thank you, Sylvia. I had some friends drop in and they told me they had recently paid for a fence to be built and the tradesmen had done an appalling job. They said next time they want a fence we can build it! lol I don’t think I’d do it again but it’s nice to know the work looks good, and it’s straight and strong (their’s wasn’t straight which is why I made the comment in the post) 😀

Your fence is great and, most importantly, straight. Hope Casey doesn’t now start to think she is half rabbit, and therefore very good at digging under fences. 😉 Boris is gorgeous, as is your daughter.

I love the ‘straight’ comment because we had some friends who just paid a lot of money to have a fence built and it wasn’t straight. They were astounded when they saw ours and wished we’d built their fence – lol 😉
Casey will dig, but I’ve put cement under both sides of the fence (you’ve got to think ahead when predicting what our furry friends will do). Also makes mowing a lot easier 😀

The straight comment came, of course, from one who doesn’t have a straight fence, thanks to the earthquakes. And as all the builders are too busy building houses, I expect to have a crooked fence for a long while yet. Hey, but there’s a thought ~ you could come over and straighten my fence and have a holiday, too. 😀

We’ve always had a fence for the dogs so Casey is used to it (the big dog walk in the afternoon makes up for the boredom during the day). This fence is just much higher 😉

Thanks everyone! Boris is settling in very nicely. He doesn’t need quite such a big fence as your dogs mum, but he’s learning to jump up and try to get onto the couch. Still can’t quite make it so he tires himself out. haha He was very brave getting his vaccination at the vet today and even let her clip his little nails. I am totally smitten with this little furry guy!

It’s so good to see you here, Helena! I hope you’re not freezing. I don’t know how I would cope now going from Cairns to Canberra in winter (let alone Jakarta!). brrrrrrr. 😉 When we took JD to Canberra when he was little he kept saying ‘there’s something wrong with me. I keep shaking.’ I said, ‘you’re just cold’ LOL!

Love the fence, Dianne. Call it something like Deconstructed Industrial and you’ll end up in a design magazine… We have a ‘shorkie’ (shih tzu and yorkie) and he’d be lucky if he could jump on your planter! Boris is a cutie, but you’ll probably end up carrying him when you go for walks with your dogs 🙂
