Misty Morning RUC
It was very misty the other morning at the RUC. I jumped out of bed at about 4:30 am (yes – I slept in) to find the moon setting over the mountains and a beautiful mist rolling through the sugar cane fields. I sat for a while exploring my inner child – imagining any minute something mystical would emerge from the fog.
When I was a child my imagination wasn’t restrained by rules and rights and wrongs. Anything was possible and a mist, like the one I saw the other morning, would have opened all sorts of doors to the unknown. Stories of witches, monsters or fairies would have emerged to scare the living daylights out of my younger sister.
As a child it was a lot easier to flex that imagination muscle in my brain.
When the fog lifted I realised I no longer look at things like I use to when I was a child. This thought opened a door to that inactive imagination muscle, so I got it to work on the treadmill. I’m getting it into shape and it’s paying off.
I’m writing again and I’m sure I caught sight of my muse emerging from the fog, but it was early in the morning and I had sleep in my eyes.
The previous day the sugar cane next to the RUC had been cut – maybe this caused the fog, or the return of my muse. Either way, life is magical again.
Have a mystical, magical week and take a few moments to sit back, relax and look at this beautiful world like a child again.
Wow, those are fantastic views, Dianne! Cutting the cane may have released a lot of moisture, that added to just the right conditions for the fog to form. Your home is is great. Good to see you back!!

Thanks, John! I love the views as well and I think you’re right about the moisture being released – it’s very late in the year to be having fogs like this 😉

Beautiful view! I’m glad the fog has lifted and your muse returned. So true that as adults, we don’t let our imagination run off-leash like we do as children. Reality often stunts my story ideas. As soon as I halt typing and think, yeah, like that could really happen, the story is done 🙂

Oh so true, Janna! As soon as we check our reality the magic seems to fade. I’m trying to unleash that inner child at least once a day now so I can suspend my disbelief in ‘dreams can come true’ 😀

Your paradise keeps unfolding whether your muse is spotted drawing from the mist or not. You are right though, how our outlook changes on the world we see as adults compared to when we were little. In saying that, I think your imagination is still thriving as you wouldn’t be able to produce the writing that you do. Glad you are hitting the treadmill and it’s working for you to hun. I have mine hiding under a tarp in the carport as there is nowhere to put it in Mr.S’s place to put it. but I need to start again 😔 xxx

It’s not me on the treadmill, it’s my brain (LOL). I don’t think I need a treadmill with the amount of walking I do every day.
You’re so right about our thinking – things look so different when we’re children and then we have to go and ruin it all by growing up 😉 xxx

I often think of you when I take the dogs for their afternoon walk around the cane fields, Rob. Yesterday we spotted an echidna. It had rolled itself into a ball because it could see the dogs coming and I thought you would be patient enough to wait for it to unroll and walk away so you could get a picture of it. I got the dogs away from it and was going to come back later but it got too dark. I also got some photos of the birds flying around the harvester, but they’re nothing compared to your bird shots 😉

Yes, it’s often in the early morning when inspiration comes knocking! I noticed the other day that my review of Wolf Pear hadn’t appeared on the Kindle UK site. I addressed that this morning. You might like to ask Kindle why the reviews don’t encompass all of their sites? I’ve had the same thing happen to me too.
Then I wanted to buy Soul’s Child for my Kindle. I’m registered with the UK site. I can’t buy it on there! I was surprised. Do you know why that is? Since I’m not registered with the .com site, only the .co.uk site, does that mean I can’t buy the Kindle version? What do you think Dianne?

We have entered fog season here. We are blessed with heavy fog that gets stuck sneaking around the bottom of the foothills and creeping into the valley and falling asleep. As the mist settles into a thick cloud in the city, out by the foothills the mist spreads out and paints the sky a translucent gray with the sun trying to dry it out. Mist and fog does excite the imagination. I feel more fictitious and creative already! 🙂 I’m glad it is inspiring you. I can’t wait for your next book! 🙂

After I finish in Dec, I’ll try to go back and revive Girls on Fire, and maybe write a couple other non-fiction works for children or simple ones like the one I just did for adults. 🙂 I’d also like to get a few clients who want me to write histories of their organizations for them. That would be interesting. 🙂

What an amazing view to wake up to—I am jealous! 🙂 I remember my imagine running wild, too, when I was younger. Making up those stories in my head was so much fun. Then I stopped doing it as an adult until a few years ago. And I feel overwhelmed by “the rules” of writing “good fiction.” I need to find that inner child again!
