Allow me to bore you
I was sitting on the writer’s nook this morning having breakfast and watching the noisy (cockatoo) neighbours when I thought I should film them to bring you a little closer to my world (you know how much I love to bore people). Lucky for you this video only goes for 30 seconds.
I had to cut the beginning and end off the video because my stomach kept rumbling in the background.
A few weeks back I talked about the rat that had eaten the fruit in my kitchen. Since then, I’ve made sure there is absolutely nothing in the kitchen every night and it hasn’t been back.
However, I think this rat may have been searching through my bookshelf and found The Art of War. One of it’s favourite quotes must be, “Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.”
Last night I left my Mother-in-Law’s (M-I-L) Mother’s Day present on the bench. When I woke up this morning I found it on the lounge-room floor (the rat must have picked it up and carried it there).

The birds are lovely, but the sugar cane farmers don’t like them because the eat the sugar cane. Well – they’ve got to eat something! 😉
I’m determined that the rats don’t win this war and anything goes now! They’ll regret the day they touched that box of chocolates…

Then the farmers have a serious problem don’t they! We had Moles in the lawn back in Michigan. I went to the Co-Op every so often for some rat poison packs. End of problem. Nasty varmints have got to go you know… Serious health issue as well.

They’re discussing things and carry horrible diseases. I wipe the benches down with Peppermint every night because I know they hate it. I guess that’s why this little ratbag carried the chocolates into the lounge room – to get away from the peppermint smell.

What a beautiful day and outlook 🙂 I love the movement of the breeze through the leaves, and the blue range backdrop.
Keep the choccies as an incentive for the opportunistic rat to show up again, install the cat, dog or a trap, it has to go.

Loved seeing the birds–thanks for the peep into your world there! I had a mouse one Christmas who got into the red and green chocolate kisses. Well, the trap was baited with one. No more mouse.

I haven’t figured out how to turn the sound on and off or add music to my home videos yet (well, I didn’t know I needed to do that until this morning when my stomach wouldn’t keep quiet!) 😉

Some dogs are brilliant with rats and mice. Mine will chase them but they’re always about 30 seconds behind! lol 😉

They don’t usually venture too close to us – there is probably nothing here for them to chew (except the sugar cane). When the farmer cuts the cane they come close, but it’s only a for a day or so 😀

you were right I did need a moment alone after seeing what The Rat did to the box of Lindt…normally I would encourage benevolence towards our fellow creatures but I’m afraid some things are unacceptable. The Rat must die.

I loved the bird video… how do you get any work done with them nearby… I’d be hiding in the cane getting closer for photos…
BUT, I’m sorry you cut off the beginning and end that could have added a good laugh… Like the bloke filming his wife’s piano concerto that did not hear the fart someone offered up till he played back the video…

You’d love it here, Rob. No elephants and tigers but there’s plenty of other creatures to watch. Which reminds me, I saw the biggest bird of my life yesterday. It was flying over the RUC but I didn’t get my camera in time. At first I thought it was an ultra-light aircraft. I googled it and I’m pretty sure it was a Sarus Crane. It was absolutely magnificent!

It so peaceful here. A car stopped out the front last night and I felt like running out there and yelling at them to get the hell off my property, lol (I’m turning into such an old hermit!) 😀

I think they live here all year, Roy. They sit in that tree and then all go down to eat the sugar cane leaving only one or two up there to watch out for the farmer. It looks like they were about to have a feast when they changed their minds – the farmer must have been out and about 😉

I love that you had to edit your stomach rumbling from the video. The only reason I started learning how to edit sound into my videos is because of my heavy breathing. Darth Vader in the background is a bit distracting.

You can borrow my cats if you’d like Dianne. Between the two of them they weigh in at around 50 lbs and are excellent hunters. They are always bringing me pleasant little gifts like your night visitor. On another note … Wow your stomach must rumble really loud!

I love the birds Dianne. One of my friends lives in Brentford and there are escaped parakeets – they’re noisy but oh so beautiful. The rats on the other hand…. There are loads around us in the farmland and the best solution we’ve ever found is cats.

I’m sure you’re right – cats are the only way to go. I’ve tried just about everything there is to get rid of the rats, but it doesn’t seem to be working. I’m allergic to cats, but I might have to bite the bullet. take antihistamines and get me one or two 😉

The return of the rat, however, I most definitely Do Not Like. Rats can be quite vicious; I’m not actually sure who would prevail in rat vs. cat. You might be better off getting a pellet gun and setting a trap for him.

LOL! Your comment just reminded me of something my sister-in-law did many years ago. She walked into the bathroom at the other farm house and there was a python in there (I don’t mind pythons, they eat rats) so she grabbed the shotgun and shot at it. She missed, but put a big hole in the bathroom wall!
I put poison in the chocolate box and they ate it all! The thing about rats is their intelligence – they are very smart and won’t eat anything unless it’s been tested by one of the ‘lower order rats’. They have to trust a food source. They trusted the chocolates – silly rats! 😀

Rats are absolutely disgusting creatures and to be honest – I’d rather have a snake in the house. I’ve loaded the chocolate box with rat poison and they’ve eaten it. Yay! 😀

I love your video. How wonderful! I don’t have the sugar cane, but I have the mountains in the background and the birds in the trees. The two cats are outside keeping the mice and moles and gophers out of the house! 🙂 The major difference is that you enjoy it and ALSO get some writing done! Thanks for sharing a beautiful thirty second slice of your life. It wasn’t boring at all, now maybe an hour of it….I might start writing my next book. 🙂

I was thinking of getting a cat, but their fur makes me sneeze (although I think you can get those furless cats, but they’re pretty expensive). The rats have been taking the bait, so I’m hoping their reign of (chocolate) terror is nearly over 😉

I don’t let the cats inside. Vince is allergic to them, too. It’s ok when they are outside. They keep down the rodent populations. Someday maybe we will see each others environment in person. Until then, pictures and adorable videos! 🙂

Am terrified for you… but love the gorgeous video you made !!! =) =) I would take allergy pills and give in, buying several cats; large, fearless cats, immediately ! Perhaps even a boa constrictor, I hear they are reasonably priced if you get a juvenile specimen… of course, then you would also need a mongoose to protect you from the snake. You are brave, and I for one, admire your pluck… clever to put the poison in the chocolates. =)
