WP gremlins are playing around with posts

Yesterday I went into my emails to check posts and each time I clicked on them I received a message that the post had been deleted. Hmmm – now this has happened to my new post today.

I haven’t deleted my post – it should be here

    The post is there. 🙂

    • diannegray / Jan 18 2013 11:49 am

Thanks so much Ruth 😀 I re-posted (not sure what happened to it)…

  2. robincoyle / Jan 18 2013 11:15 am

    Hasn’t happened to me . . . yet.

  3. EJ / Jan 18 2013 11:33 am

I’ve had the same problem a few times – to be honest I thought it was just me until I saw another blogger mention it!

    • diannegray / Jan 18 2013 11:36 am

It’s odd because I thought everyone was deleting their posts yesterday – now I know the reason behind it 😯

  4. T. W. Dittmer / Jan 18 2013 11:59 am

You know, I think I’ve seen that happen to others. Went to look at their posts and they WERE gone.

    Yours is still there.

    • diannegray / Jan 18 2013 12:04 pm

I re-posted it because someone told me they saw it come up in their email and when they clicked on it a message came up saying my blog had been cancelled. That’s a bit of a worry….

  5. Jacqui Murray / Jan 18 2013 12:06 pm

I hate when that happens. WP has been remarkably stable, very few problems. I’d be so sad if that wasn’t the case.

I do see yours, but maybe that’s because you put it in again.

And, I haven’t backed up my blog in months.

    • diannegray / Jan 18 2013 12:47 pm

We’re supposed to back up our blogs? oops – I haven’t done that at all …..

  6. nrhatch / Jan 18 2013 2:34 pm

    To back up your blog:

Dashboard -> Tools -> Export -> Export -> All Content -> Download Export File. DONE.

  7. bulldogsturf / Jan 18 2013 3:15 pm

It is.. but I must admit I have been getting some emails that I can read in email form, but when I go to the link I’m told sorry I’m lost…

    • diannegray / Jan 19 2013 6:46 am

I also found it difficult to upload the pictures this time (and it hasn’t been difficult before this). I’m not sure how you manage when you upload yours because you have a lot! 😉

      • bulldogsturf / Jan 19 2013 2:54 pm

I use “windows Live writer” to write my posts and load my photos, and then I just publish to WP, it saves a lot of airtime.. it is a free download and makes things so much easier…

      • diannegray / Jan 20 2013 5:56 am

Very crafty indeed! I’ll have to try it 😉

  8. Irish Katie / Jan 18 2013 3:34 pm

I think I have seen this happening too! But …by clicking on the link you had here I was able to get to it.

  9. Maddie Cochere / Jan 18 2013 4:41 pm

Two of my favorite bloggers seem to have disappeared. WordPress says they no longer have blogs, and I don’t believe it.
The gremlins are everywhere. Every post on my Facebook page disappeared the other day. My page was naked. At the end of the day, they were back, but it was still frustrating. Gremlins!! I’m off to read the *real* post now.

    • diannegray / Jan 19 2013 6:51 am

It’s very frustrating, Maddie – FB as well??? Those sneaky little gremlins are everywhere…

  10. jannatwrites / Jan 18 2013 5:06 pm

I’ve had a few that I received in email but when I go to comment they were gone. I even had one where it said the blog was deleted. I was bummed, but it was back up the next day. Weird.

    • diannegray / Jan 19 2013 7:25 am

That’s what I’ve had as well and I didn’t realise it would actually happen to me. Luckily a blogger noticed that they couldn’t get into my post by email, so they emailed me asking if I’d deleted my site. I re-posted it and it seemed to work. I love that other bloggers will tell you these things, otherwise I’d be sitting wondering why no one wants to read my posts anymore! 😯

  11. Life in the 50's and beyond... / Jan 18 2013 11:02 pm

WP has placed many new bloggers in my Reader! I have no clue where they came from but the gremlins might be a good explanation……

    • diannegray / Jan 19 2013 7:27 am

Those sneaky little gremlins! Now all they have to do is get us Freshly Pressed by accident and we’ll all be happy 😀

  12. Invisible Mikey / Jan 19 2013 4:26 am

I wonder if it has anything to do with the global cyber-attacks exploiting a recently-discovered flaw in Java? There were news stories the day before your disappearance problems advising people to disable Java on their browsers. I don’t know if WP’s functions rely on Java much. After turning it off, I didn’t notice any differences except at outside sites that use Java to embed media.

    • diannegray / Jan 19 2013 7:35 am

I didn’t know this, Mikey – but it’s worth looking into. I love being surrounded by people who have technical knowledge because I have absolutely none. Thanks so much for the heads-up 😉

  13. gabrielablandy / Jan 19 2013 6:00 am

eek! It’s scary when technology leaves you in a vulnerable position.

  14. ripe red berries / Jan 20 2013 6:59 am

    so sorry to hear!! yikes!!

    • diannegray / Jan 20 2013 7:34 am

I’m hoping it was just a glitch that’s gone now 😉

  15. cestlavie22 / Jan 20 2013 1:23 pm

The post is there- is it irony that the post is called “Here today gone the next?” when you are saying the post was here today and gone the next? lol couldn’t help but notice that!

    • diannegray / Jan 20 2013 3:17 pm

      LOL! Great pick-up. I didn’t realise that 😀

  16. Denise Hisey / Jan 21 2013 7:22 am

That’s so funny! Just as Cestlavie22 said, initially I thought you were referring to the “here today, gone tomorrow” post as well.
I hope the WP gremlins have gone into a long hibernation.

    • diannegray / Jan 21 2013 7:49 am

Thanks, Denise 😉 I’m not sure why things are going awry here, but I’m hoping the gremlins are well on their way to hibernation as well 😉

  17. Jennifer M Eaton / Jan 22 2013 12:29 pm

It’s still there. Did you find out what happened? That’s really odd.

    • diannegray / Jan 22 2013 4:00 pm

I just got a message from another blogger saying that they clicked on my link to find a message that I no longer exist (ouch – that hurts because I do exist!) 😉

  18. eof737 / Feb 1 2013 7:45 pm

Strange… I found you but some blog friends say they no longer get my posts. 😦

    • diannegray / Feb 2 2013 7:02 am

I’ve heard that from other’s as well. I think sometimes WP goes into a bit of a glitch and bloggers can ‘disappear’ for a while. If I get an email about a new post from anyone now and am told it’s no longer accessible, I go into my ‘comments’ and get to the post from there…it can be a bit frustrating…

  19. tchistorygal / Feb 3 2013 3:43 pm

I found a couple of my friend’s comments in the spam folder, but that’s all that the gremlins have done to me recently. I was devastated when WP closed my blog down one day when I cut and pasted a spam comment in my post. I never did that again!!! Hope all your gremlin problems work themselves out SOON! 🙂 ML

  20. Jacqui Murray / Feb 28 2013 11:58 am

A month later, hopefully this is all over… I had one post on that the update was deleted. First time, though. It did make me back up all my blogs again.

    • diannegray / Feb 28 2013 12:39 pm

I haven’t had any issues since, Jacqui (touch wood!) 😀
