Look at moi!

Kath & Kim (photo courtesy of The Herald)

I have been tagged in the ‘Look’ game by Maggie and MR Graham.

The idea of the game is to locate the word ‘look’ in whatever manuscript you have lying around, then post it with the surrounding paragraphs. Afterwards, invite other authors to do the same.

My “look” is from the last paragraph of Chapter 1 in my book The Eleventh Question (to be published early October).

She grabbed a towel and headed into the bathroom. The shower water was soothing on her skin as she stood staring at the white tiles embossed with blue seashells. What was happening in her life? She was too old to have a pretend friend. Was she going insane? Or was she the only sane person left in the world?

She wrapped herself in the towel and looked into the misty mirror. With a wet finger she wrote the words – Who am I?

Here are the authors I’m tagging:

J M Kadane

Rick Mallery

Bitter Charm

Kezalu

Sophiepoo

Georgie

Anna

Virginia

Captain Kate

Subtlekate

Tarina

Vikki

Zen

If you want to join in and I haven’t put your name above (it was difficult due to a short timeframe and the amount of great writers out there!) – please feel free to put the link to your page (or your ‘Look’ paragraph) in the comments section for others to see 😀

For those I have included – I fully understand if you don’t have the time to take on this challenge.

ENJOY!

Hi Di – What a cute idea. I’m still taken back when I see my name as an Author!!! (How bizarre How Bizzare) (shades of OMC). Thank you for putting my name down though – whoot whoot! 🙂 Ok here is my look (or looking) & strangely in my just started book “Veronica” (as I haven’t really decided on a title yet) it’s in a bathroom. 🙂

The wine, the smell of the burning wood and the music warmed and relaxed her, she closed her eyes and swayed gently to the rhythm of the sounds filling the cabin. After placing her wine glass rather unsteadily on the sink she walked slowly into the bathroom.

She gazed into the mirror and saw before her a pale woman with unbrushed hair and panda eyes “looking” back at her. Turning to the spa behind her, she flicked on the shower tap and with awkwardness undressed, leaving her clothes strewn across the floor.

Wonderful excerpt! But you’re allowed to put it up as a post on your blog as well 🙂 You can nominate others to do it if you like (that’s a fun bit!) just like I’ve done.

Thank you so much for coming over and doing this so quickly 😀

There are no ‘true’ rules and you don’t have to put it into yours – it’s totally up to you if you want to 😀

        Best of luck 🙂

“Cobb Russwin was a big man, tall and solidly built, with a blond crew cut and a dark suit. He cultivated a look that said he couldn’t possibly be anything other than a cop.

The couple talking with Suzie in front of a wall full of vibrators froze at his entrance, but Suzie said something softly and all three of them laughed at it.”

    I am an Author!!! 😀
Well, this is going to be interesting. I have a semi-written draft of a story, but I can’t look at it because I’m using that idea for Nanowrimo, and…. yeah. So I’ll have to look around for something else… this is going to be fun! Thanks so much for tagging me, Dianne! xD

Three for the fire and one for me…

I once got a phone call. A group of young people from a drama project I was working with in a South African township had missed their last bus home after a late lunch I’d invited them to. They were tired, scared and didn’t know what to do. I left my house immediately and with no other means, hitched to the bus station and met with the kids to find a solution, which ended up being my lving room floor and a bunch of blankets and cushions. On one level hindsight makes it look crazy because a young white woman hitching in the dark in South Africa is not always safe…but life isn’t safe, and it’s certainly made no safer if we pretend it is.

And the mirror laughed. She rubbed her eyes. But there was only her face staring back and the mirror laughing, this tinkling sort of metalic sound. Her words misted over. The laughter died away. Oh well she thought maybe I am losing it. New words appeared where she had written her question. They said…
