Life is a highway

We’ve been on the road now for nearly a week.

First stop was my brother’s place in Coffs Harbour where we were attacked by the cuteness of the wallabies and kookaburras.

Feed the cute little kookaburra

That finger looks delicious!

Hello little fellas!

Next stop was Brisbane where we stayed with some old friends and laughed about old embarrassing stories.

We are now somewhere between the Back and Beyond.

What we’ve seen along the way

  • Stoopid drivers
  • More stoopid drivers
  • Caravans overtaking caravans
  • UFOs Weather balloonsΒ  in the early morning sky
  • Busses, trucks trains and planes
  • Road after road
  • Field after field
  • Town after town

I’m managing to do the occasional bit of peeping into posts while hubby focuses on the driving πŸ™‚

A cute little place we just saw

    • diannegray / Aug 22 2012 5:56 am

It’s huge and absolutely fantastic! I only wish I had a good camera πŸ™‚

      • bulldogsturf / Aug 22 2012 2:18 pm

Don’t see much wrong in your photos… what are you using…??

      • diannegray / Aug 22 2012 10:15 pm

My mobile phone *embarrassed look* πŸ™‚

I’ve always wanted to see Australia, thanks for taking us along!

    • Amanda / Aug 21 2012 4:24 pm

You must do it one day Maggie – there’s a lot of amazing stuff to see!

      • diannegray / Aug 22 2012 6:14 am

Just leaving Yappoon this morning.Oh my God – what a beautiful place. We were in place just up off the beach and could see Great Keppel Island from our balcony. Breathtaking!

  5. jannatwrites / Aug 21 2012 4:15 pm

That joey pic is adorable! I’d love to see Australia but probably will never get to. Thanks for sharing your pictures!

    • diannegray / Aug 22 2012 6:18 am

Oh, Janna – the Joey was SO cute. At one stage it climbed out and tried to hop around and its legs were all gangly and it fell over and then hopped back into the pouch! Talk about cute factor!!! Of course I had my phone on the charger and couldn’t grab it in time to take a picture

  6. Talenin / Aug 21 2012 9:58 pm

Enjoying tour trip in our lovely, but oh-so-large country? It’s a great place to drive around. So quiet.

    • diannegray / Aug 22 2012 6:19 am

Very quiet! And miles and miles of open space πŸ˜€

      • Talenin / Aug 22 2012 8:18 pm

        *kilometres πŸ˜› haha

      • diannegray / Aug 22 2012 10:21 pm

        Oops, yes – kilometres!

  7. ocdreader / Aug 22 2012 12:32 am

Good friends, fun pics and stupid drivers! Sounds like a perfect road trip. I LOVE the pictures of the kookaburra, my husband always sings some song about one of those he learned at camp. πŸ™‚
Have a great time! Thanks for bringing us along

    • diannegray / Aug 22 2012 10:30 pm

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree, very merry king of the bush is he. Laugh kookaburra, laugh kookaburra – gay your life must be!
I hope that’s the song – otherwise I’ve just made a complete twit of myself (again)! πŸ˜€

      • ocdreader / Aug 23 2012 1:28 am

LOL – That is it!! Love it. Now I just need to memorize the words so I can freak him out and sing it with him.

      • diannegray / Aug 23 2012 8:46 am

Hahaha! Google it and see if you can find someone else singing it – wait until a romantic moment and then play it πŸ˜€

  8. The Good Greatsby / Aug 22 2012 2:09 am

Sounds like fun. I love Coffs Harbour. I have my picture in front of the big banana.

    • diannegray / Aug 22 2012 6:22 am

It’s beautiful! The water is so clear. The last pic on this post was taken at Moonee Beach:)

  9. foroneplease / Aug 22 2012 4:04 am

UFOs….?!? πŸ˜‰ sounds like a fun trip so far, thanx for the pics, they’re awesome! Enjoy!!

    • diannegray / Aug 22 2012 6:01 am

Hahaha – just thought I’d drop that one in there:) Glad you like the pics – they were SO cute πŸ˜€

  10. adinparadise / Aug 22 2012 6:29 am

Very cute photos. Glad you’re having fun. πŸ™‚

  11. Pairodox Farm / Aug 22 2012 9:25 am

Let us know when you get into Wombat territory … my wife has always wanted one … and a Wallabie too! She traveled to Australia and Tasmania when she was young. Made a very lasting impression on her. I’m not much of a traveler but if I do ever go somewhere ‘exotic’ it’ll be in your neck of the woods. Keep the images coming! D (at Pairodox Farm)

    • diannegray / Aug 22 2012 1:13 pm

If I see a wombat, I’ll be sure to get a pic of it! πŸ™‚

  12. jaykaycee / Aug 22 2012 11:26 am

Your travels sound exciting! One question… did you want me to edit your blog posts too? πŸ˜€ There’s a couple of mistakes in there πŸ™‚ teehee! I’m sure this is the last place you need to worry about that! Have FUN!

    • diannegray / Aug 22 2012 1:16 pm

Hahahaha! Thank you, Jen πŸ˜€ It’s not easy writing on the go, but if you want to edit them please do!!!

Every time we hit a bump I type stoopid wrods πŸ˜€

  13. Anna Scott Graham / Aug 22 2012 10:51 pm

What a fantastic holiday! One of the best parts about road trips is that unknown factor of discovery. Love those shots! Sorry about drivers behaving ignorantly. πŸ™‚

    • diannegray / Aug 24 2012 6:32 am

      Thanks, Anna πŸ™‚

The drivers were really only bad in the cities – country drivers are a lot more patient (and they’ve got all the time in the world) πŸ˜€

  14. 4amWriter / Aug 23 2012 6:06 am

Your pic of the kookaburra reminds me of a song we sang in elementary school about a kookaburra that sits on the old gum tree…merry merry king of the bush is he….

    or something to that effect.

Looks like you’re having a fun time!

    • diannegray / Aug 23 2012 8:51 am

OCD reader was commenting on that earlier! Apparently her husband used to sing it when he was in school. I told her to download it and play it to him πŸ˜€

Every time I see a kookaburra I think of that song (school brainwashing) πŸ˜€

  15. AuthorWorld / Aug 24 2012 12:15 am

Sounds like you’re having a great trip! Thank you for sharing a bit of it with us πŸ™‚

  16. rilzy / Aug 24 2012 10:10 pm

You warned me but I still wasn’t prepared for the cute factor of the kookaburra. I’ve always wanted to visit Australia so these past couple blogs have been a treat. You know I’m desperately afraid of snakes and despite wanting to visit I’ve always associated Australia with these mean and deadly creatures… now I see you’ve got some real cuties too ;).

    • diannegray / Aug 25 2012 8:05 am

Oh thanks, Rilzy! There are snaked, but you never really see them. At the moment I’m staying in a place that is notorious for snakes but not a sight of one so far. Also, it’s winter here and they don’t come out till summer – so this time of year is probably the best time to visit πŸ™‚

  17. audiophileparadise / Aug 27 2012 11:31 pm

As usual, great blog Dianne! Man, I sure have a LONG way to go before I can reach your level of writing! But hey, I’m trying my best! Awesome! Keep it up!!

    • diannegray / Sep 6 2012 5:26 pm

Oh – I’m so flattered!!! I love your writing (and your research is brilliant!)

As you can propbably tell I haven’t caught up in all my comments yet because of the road trip! I’m getting there πŸ˜€

  18. Linda Vernon / Sep 8 2012 4:59 am

Oh! How cute! The only thing that could top this would be seeing a UFO and a thylacine!

    • diannegray / Sep 8 2012 7:32 am

If I could get good pics of both – I’d make a fortune! πŸ˜€
