Total eclipse of the brain

I was caught out today. Someone asked me a personal writing question I couldn’t answer (and that’s big for me!)

Of all the characters in your books, which is your favourite?

Good Grief! Now I have to go through them quickly in my head.

…Erm – I’ll get back to you on that…

So now I’m thinking out loud.

The girl with no voice and no name – who is picked up on a street corner by her old school principle who thinks she’s a prostitute, so she murders him (naturally!) Corrugated Dreaming (Manslaughter and Other Tears).

Maggie Smithers – who cooks up a very interesting dish for the townsfolk who have treated her so badly. (The Butcher of Mena Creek – Manslaughter and Other Tears).

Nicodemus Landau – a religious cult survivor, now lone-wolf biker who rides with a verbose demon on his shoulders (Let Sleeping Gods Lie).

Madison Ingram – a free-spirited atheist/artist who finds herself the target of a religious cult (Let Sleeping Gods Lie).

Luke Canning – an amateur astronomer who maps the orbit of a new planet only to find himself in the midst of a global conspiracy (The Everything Theory).

Seymour – a sergeant chasing a detective badge who loves real-life crime television and playing chess with an invisible partner (The Everything Theory).

Robert McDougal – a Scottish scientist with a purple goatee, a penchant for whisky and highly outlandish stories (The Everything Theory).

Seira Kanahele – a professor of anthropological linguistics who enjoys a good trek through the jungle with an ultimate goal to find the seventh book of the Nine Unknown Men (The Everything Theory).

Aurora Soul – trapped in a wheelchair and the unknowing star of her father’s bogus ghost-hunting television show, ‘Soul Search’ (Soul’s Child).

Clive Soul – steals his daughter’s dreams to reach fame and fortune only to find he’s attracted the attention of a very nasty demon (Soul’s Child).

Esther Crooke – obsessed with her weight, her books, Janis Joplin, and the body buried in her garden (Wolf Pear).

JD Cusack – a psychic detective who sniffs and touches his way into Esther’s garden (Wolf Pear).

Arista McGregor – a questioning, dog-fearing, teenager who is followed by a Rottweiler that may, or may not be a dog (The Eleventh Question).

Cayo – a sensitive-new-age witch’s apprentice who can absorb then verbalise human emotion (The Eleventh Question).

This is all I can think of tonight and I’m pretty sure I’ve left out a few of them. No doubt they’ll come to me at 3am!
